In my beach bag: Jess Friend from The Opalista

As the weather warms up in Australia (finally!) and as summer holidays are well and truly here, we thought we'd ask a few of our favourite creatives to tell us about their summer essentials - those items they always take with them to the beach or pool.
First up is Jess Friend, otherwise known as @the.opalista - one of our favourite beauty/skincare/lifestyle creators.
We might be biased, but we love good skincare content! Close-ups, action shots, tutorial videos - we're obsessed with it all, and Jess does it to perfection.
Based in sunny Brisbane, Jess recently took a trip to Great Keppel Island off the coast of Central QLD and took us with her.

Where is your number #1 summer vacation spot?
J: At the moment it is Great Keppel Island - a hidden gem off the coast of Yeppoon in QLD. Think crystal clear waters, bush walks, snorkelling off the beach and cocktails by sunset (but without the price tag you might expect).

What's your vacation style - relax or adventure?
J:  I cannot sit still, so definitely adventure!

Favourite beach read this summer?
J:  Anything by John Wyndham or for the non-fiction moods I love reading personal finance books.

Best sunscreen you've used recently?
J: I really enjoy the Ultra Violette Supreme Screen. It's about the only sunscreen I want to put on and re-apply (the sunscreen haters will understand!).

The beach or the pool?
J:  Beach. Nothing beats the salty hair and sound of nature.

Bikini or one-piece?
J:  Bikinis but I am warming up to one-pieces. I try to invest in good quality swimwear from Australian brands - some pairs I own from Peony Swimwear I've had for years and they still look brand new.

Book or magazine?
J: Something about a good mag just screams holiday mode to me, so if relaxing I would pick a magazine.

Aperol or Margarita?
J:  100% Aperol. My favourite cocktail is called the East 8 Hold Up and is based on vodka and Aperol. Give it a go at your next Summer event, it is delicious!

Lastly, what do you always have in your beach bag and why?
J: A turkish towel - they're soft, lightweight, dry well and are gorgeous.
Sunscreen of course - either the Ultra Violette Supreme Screen or the Sun Bum Face Stick as my partner likes that too.
A bottle of water - mine is a Kinto bottle.
The Aloe Co for sun aftercare on the drive home from the coast
and other essentials like keys, wallet, phone, sunglasses and a trusty hat.
